Save The Earth – Go Green
The survival of human race is crucially dependent on the natural environment we live in. We derive our basic nutrition and the means of survival, that is – food, air and water from it. With rapid industrialization and consumerist culture, we have placed our environment in jeopardy, in turn threatening our own existence. The environmental risks that we face today are well known to all of us – deforestation, ozone layer depletion, rising carbon emissions and high pollution levels.
The need of the hour is to look for effective solutions and put them up for implementation. Any effort to restore the environment has to be all-inclusive and widespread in approach. Each and every one of us needs to contribute towards saving the earth. The buzzword that has caught on everywhere is ‘Go Green’. But a lot of people continue to be unaware of what this mantra represents and how exactly can it be put to practice. Let us discuss ways to participate and promote the green revolution.
To make any real contribution, it is important to think, act and adopt green in every aspect of life. We must work towards reducing the consumption of energy products and decrease the waste of natural resources. Even small activities such as turning off unused lights, installing energy efficient products, minimizing use of air conditioners or heaters can go a long way. Choose to walk or cycle for short distances instead of always taking the vehicle. Join a car pool to college or your workplace. Take adequate steps to conserve water. Plant trees at home and in the neighborhood.
Try and reuse products such as envelopes, gift papers and plastic bags. Take up recycling of paper, paper products, cans and even electronic products. Ban the use of plastics and go for alternatives like paper or jute bags. Whenever you are out shopping, always opt for eco-friendly alternatives over the ordinary version. When you are purchasing an electrical appliance, look for energy efficiency stars on the product. Most people tend to pointlessly splurge on the latest appliances and technologies like laptops, mobile phones. This needs to be curbed because the production of such items involves the use of natural resources.
Invest in solar energy products like solar lights, cookers, heaters and geysers. Even the process of constructing buildings must incorporate efficient utilization of resources. Through careful design structure, the construction process must employ replenish able materials. The longer a building lasts, the greener it is considered.
