Counting calories is certainly an important part of any weight loss process. Weight loss is something that millions of people struggle with at one time or another. For many, it’s a lifelong neverending battle that no one ever seems to win. Every year more new diets come and go, and the same people are left with dissappointing results over and over. There is really no magic answer to permanent weight loss. It simply takes diet and exercise, yet, there is the constant attempt to find a better way.
Much like anything else that people would like to change about their behavior, weight loss is about changing habits. Notice that the operative word is “changing” not stopping. If you have a habit of snacking, which is something that ruins many dieter’s chance as weigtloss, instead of stopping snacking, replace your current choice of snacks with easy healthy snacks. If you haven’t exercised since gym class in high school, change your parking space at work and walk a few hundred extra feet or yards every day. Small changes are usually easy to accomplish. Smokers didn’t start off smoking a pack a day, just like people who walk for exercise didn’t start off walking five miles that first time.
If you are in the habit of snacking on a bag of chips in the middle of the afternoon, you don’t have to stop, you just have to replace those chips with something that is more of a healthy snack. It doesn’t have to be a carrot sticks, but it can be lower fat chips, at least at first. The key to success is to have patience. You didn’t gain the weight overnight and you won’t lose it overnight. Use small steps at first that you can succeed with, than make them progessively more effective. In less time than you think, you’ll be looking forward to easy healthy snacks instead of sugary empty calories.
