Environmental impact from disposable capsules

Everyone knows that the most important impact to environment brings out all wrapping materials of different products which we consume. Very often these wrapping materials are made from materials which decompose very long time or even don’t decompose at all. This is very important problem which is fairly hard to solve because consumption habits are hard to change. We, consumers, require governments to do something to protect environment but from other side we want to continue to live as we have get accustomed. Handy wrapping materials are the huge part of this lifestyle.

Currently almost everyone have seen well done commercial “Nespresso. What else?” with George Clooney. He easily prepares amazing, tasty shot of espresso… However there is one little but at the same time fairly huge problem. These Nespresso machines use disposable aluminum foil capsules. There is 1g of aluminum in each capsule. You can wonder where the problem is if one capsule has just 1g of aluminum. Let’s do a little mathematic. For example, if you live two together and drink each just one or two cups of espresso every day during just one year you will create more than 35oz (1kg) of aluminum waste. If we imagine that popularity of coffee drinks are extremely huge in the whole World and popularity of these Nespresso espresso machines best suited to use these disposable capsules we can just approximately imagine all these waste mountains. Even no horror film can exaggerate these facts.

Society’s criticism has risen regarding the negative ecological impact from the waste of these disposable capsules. Because of this criticism Nespresso started some recycling programs but mostly in Europe. However recycling of these capsules is possible but it mostly depends from the good will of the consumers. And that is not only words. There are very much customers discussions in Internet forums about the best and most easy methods to prepare these coffee capsules for recycling. That means that society’s attitude about recycling has changed and continue to change and become more responsible.
